| Welcome to our facilities! The Student Recreation Center is a unique community center on our campus. The center provides numerous opportunities for interaction between the diverse populations that comprise and are the University of Oregon. In this regard, it provides the ideal climate for learning to respect the dignity and worth of each individual. Please join the staff in promoting an environment that demonstrates the quality of the individuals who are the university. Patrons are asked to use mature judgment in choosing clothing and language, and the message each delivers to other patrons. |

GENERAL USER POLICIES AND PROTOCOLS
Facility policies are posted at the front desk. Area-specific policies are posted in each activity venue. A brochure of SRC services and policies is available as a pdf download.
Please secure personal belongings in a locker. PE & REC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Food and drink is allowed in the lounge areas only. Closed-cap water bottles are allowed unless otherwise noted.
PARTICIPANT AGE REQUIREMENTS
To access facilities, classes and programs of the Student Recreation Center, participants must be 18 years of age. Exceptions:
- Registered students who have not yet reached their 18th birthday have full access as any other student.
- Participation of children in scheduled Family Recreation and Youth Sports Camp programs.
- During summer session only, the policy changes to 16 years of age.
PARTICIPANT ACCESS AND CONDUCT
- This is your building. Please treat the facilities, equipment, fellow participants, and staff members with respect.
- Access to the SRC is obtained with proof of current UO student status or paid membership. Admittance is gained by swiping your ID card through the turnstile. Abuse of ID may result in denied entry and loss of future access to PE & REC facilities. Please review our membership page for fee and eligibility requirements. Memberships and lockers are nontransferable.
- There is risk of personal injury in all physical activity. You participate voluntarily and assume sole responsibility for your own medical and/or emergency needs.
- You are encouraged to get a physical exam prior to engaging in vigorous exercise. This is particularly important if you have a special condition which may increase your risk of activity related injury.
- Participants must adhere to the dress code of each activity area. Patrons are asked to wear gym clothing while working out or participating in activities. Athletic shoes with a non-marring sole in activity areas.
- Not allowed in any area of the S.R.C.
- swearing abusive language, fighting, sexual, or other harassment
- tobacco products, alcohol, drugs, or any kind of weapon,
- bicycles, roller skates roller blades, skateboards, etc.
- animals with the exception of canine assistants
- Facilities and equipment must be used for intended purposes only.
- We reserve the right to deny facility use to anyone who refuse to comply with policies.
- The University Student Conduct Code is enforced at all times. Violators will be ejected from the facility. Serious incidents or repeated abusers will be subjected to sanctions under the Student Code of Conduct. Non-student offenders or repeat abusers will be subjected to sanctions by the Associate Director. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to: suspension from the facility, revoking of membership privileges, student disciplinary sanctions, civil prosecutions, and others.
Exercise Precautions
Because exercise is a stress placed on the body, certain precautions should be considered. Participants are encouraged to get a physical exam prior to engaging in vigorous exercise.
Injury/First Aid Procedures
Student Recreation Center student supervisors are trained in basic first aid and CPR. If an injury occurs, users are asked to seek assistance from the nearest Student Recreation Center employee. If an employee is not in the area, patrons should notify the Front Desk. The location of the injured individual and degree of injury should be given.
A Facility Manager or other staff member will evaluate the persons condition and provide immediate first aid if necessary. Student Recreation Center employees will advise the injured individual if further treatment should be sought. Student Recreation Center employees may not transport injured persons. If an ambulance is necessary, the Student Recreation Center employee will try to get verbal consent from the injured person. In all injury situations, the injured person and witness to the accident will be asked questions about the incident for a report.
Student Recreation Center employees are not trained to give preventive first aid such as wrapping or taping joints, nor are they trained to apply splints to injured joints. Individuals requiring such aid will be advised to seek professional attention.
CUTTING WEIGHT IN PE & REC FACILITIES
POLICY
Exercising with multiple layers of clothing and/or cutting weight is not permitted in facilities managed by the Department of Physical Education and Recreation. This includes the Student Recreation Center, Student Tennis Center, Outdoor Playing Fields, Gerlinger, or Gerlinger Annex.
Rationale
Our staff professionals do not consider this to be a safe activity outside of the direct control and supervision of Athletics medical staff and will not be permitted in the Student Recreation Center. SRC staff is expected to intervene, as an inappropriate use of PE & REC facilities, when it is observed. A participant using the Student Recreation Center for extreme weight cutting sends a mixed message to other patrons and is not acceptable. It is a danger to themselves, other patrons, and to our staff.
This issue in regards to UO varsity athletes has been clarified with Gary Gray (Assoc Athletic Director/Compliance) and Bob Crist (Director of Athletic Medicine), who will communicate the policy to all coaches and athletes. Athletes are always welcome to use the Student Recreation Center in the same way as any other student. Weight cutting (i.e. dressed in heavy sweats and/or layered clothing and sweating profusely) is not acceptable for any user.

TABLING IN PE & REC FACILITIES
The policy of the Department of Physical Activity Recreation Services is to deny all requests for tabling inside the Student Recreation Center and other facilities under the management of PE & REC.
Exception:
Tabling that is sponsored or co-sponsored by the Department of Physical Education and Recreation.
Rationale:
- Tabling activity from groups has become so numerous as to be disruptive to the facilities, programs of PE & REC and excessively time consuming for staff to manage.
The Erb Memorial Union is the university-approved location on campus for tabling activity.
